Lorry drivers’ action continues in France

A British lorry driver, stranded in Calais, said:

“We’ve spoken to the French drivers and many seem to be working under much worse conditions than us, though we’re supposed to be under the same EU. I support them in what they are doing. They certainly know how to put up a fight.”

Nevertheless, tempers were fraying as drivers were left stranded and mounted their own picket to speed up negotiations. The communist-led union, the Confédération Générale du Travail, has organised solidarity action amongst other transport workers, but the plight of French and British drivers poses the need for one transport union across the EU, so workers can mount a united struggle to halt the concerted attack by EU bosses.
