Labour uses bosses’ laws

RESIDENTIAL workers in Liverpool have been on official all-out strike since August 16. This is against Liverpool Labour city council’s imposed changes to their national and local pay agreements and a massive casualisation of the service.

Pay cuts are planned on maternity, annual and sick leave and for training. If the cuts are imposed, it will mean each member losing at least £500 per year. Some members will lose up to £2,400.

A ballot for industrial action was won by a 6-1 majority in June. However, Liverpool city council used the anti-trade union laws to halt action. This cynical manoeuvre seriously backfired when, on a voluntary re-ballot, workers once again voted to take all-out strike action.
