Firmin Gnali, an actor with the Banner Theatre, is facing deportation. A citizen of the Ivory Coast, he fled to Britain in 1993, under threat of state persecution for his role as student union and opposition activist. Such opponents of the regime are subject to arbitrary arrests and torture. His application for political asylum was rejected by the home office, despite the fact that his life would be in danger if he were to be deported.
