IRSP statement

The Irish Republican Socialist Party has called for the immediate and unconditional release of all Irish political prisoners following paratrooper Lee Clegg’s release from Wakefield prison.

Gino Gallagher, IRSP spokes-person, said:

“The British government hijacked legal due process to suit political expediency. In doing so they created a precedent whereby they can no longer say that the matter of prisoner release is one for the legal process alone to decide. By freeing Lee Clegg in isolation from any movement by the British on other prisoner releases, the Conservative government have added to the growing perception that they have little commitment to ensuring the success of the peace process.

“The IRSP call is straightforward: one out - all out!”
