Better deal for lifers

NOTHING exemplifies the government’s concern for prisoners welfare better than their proposal to build a special facility for ageing ‘lifers’. Yes, they are to get special raised beds, wheelchair ramps and, best of all, hoists to lift them out of the bath.

No ‘care in the community’ for these desperadoes; solid walls and barbed wire will see they never escape to terrorise the community again.

To those that say it is pointless, expensive and inhuman, Home Secretary Michael Howard can honestly reply that if ‘an eye for an eye’ was good enough for barbarians, it is certainly good enough for his party.
