Irish in Britain

Public meeting on Saturday April 19 at 2pm at the Friends Meeting House, Mount Street, Manchester.

Members of the Irish community are being urged by the Irish in Britain Representation Group to challenge election candidates to make their position clear on Irish issues. The IBRG has produced a special election leaflet which is currently circulating around the Irish community and which highlights key issues, such as repeal of the Prevention of Terrorism Act, an Irish category in the 2001census and the inclusion of Sinn Fein in all-party talks.

Bernadette Hyland, IBRG National Publicity Officer, said:

“Ireland is the general election issue that dare not speak its name. The main British political parties will be doing their best to say as little as possible about Irish issues during the campaign. IBRG intends to break this consensus of silence by circulating our leaflet, holding public meetings and using the media to put across our point of view in the next month.”

This meeting will be your opportunity to discuss the Irish agenda and the general election. Speakers will include Mary Nelis (Derry City Sinn Fein councillor), Dorothy McNulty (McNulty Family Campaign) and Pat Reynolds (National Chair, IBRG) Organised by the IRBG.
