Socialist Alliance unites Kent militants

This new alliance has the potential of being the best thing that has happened on the far left in Kent for many years. Discussions in Kent on the left around the SLP has brought us closer together.

For once all the different political and campaign groups are getting together and working on an organisational basis to be a more effective force in local campaigns.

Forty people attended our first meeting representing most of the political and campaign groups locally. Marxists, anarchists and environmentalists were gathered and sectarianism did not rear its ugly head. A wealth of experience and knowledge on different campaigns was brought to the forum.

Ten campaigns, including roads, Asylum Bill, workfare, the environment and the possibility of militants standing in local and general elections in Kent, were discussed.

A public statement condemning Dover’s Tory MP, David Shaw, for his rubbishing of the P&O strikers was agreed by the new alliance.

We hope to have a public launch, monthly meetings and a monthly internal circular, all based on action and the united front tactic.
