War with Russia - our manifesto to the workers

From 'The Communist', paper of the Communist Party of Great Britain, August 26 1920

FELLOW WORKERS - Do you want to fight for big business? Do you want to fight for imperialism? Do you want to fight against the working class? Haven’t you had enough of it? Then stop it.

Russia was wantonly attacked by Poland. Poland was egged on by France and Britain. Russia has beaten the aggressor.

Russia guarantees the independ-ence of Poland; Russia offers peace to Poland on even better terms than the allies demand, but the allies do not want peace. Beaten in Poland, they conspire with Wrangel.

Who is this Wrangel in the Crimea? He is a subsidised traitor against the Soviet government. Why do the allies recognise Wrangel? Because, in their own words, he is an anti-Bolshevik leader. Because they want war with Russia.

Why do they want war with Russia? Because in Russia the workers are top dog ...

Because they have done away with all the people who rob us of our liberties and want to bleed us of our lives. In Russia they have sacked the lot. No wonder Churchill and his like want to fight Russia. They see their number is up.

... Those backers of Poland and Wrangel are involving us in another world war. We are back in 1914. Your money will be spent. Your blood will be shed. Your wives may become widows. You will have to go to the hell of the trenches. Not Churchill but you.

Russia wants peace, we want peace and Poland must be compelled to make peace. Wrangel must surrender to Russia. Refuse to fight. Refuse to make or handle munitions. Stand by your own class.
