The biggest quango
HERIDITARY peers are revolting. They are understandably upset by Labour’s plans to ban 6,222 hereditary peers from voting in the Lords. 59% of peers owe their voting rights to inheritance.
The Earl of Selborne complained that this would turn the Lords into the largest quango in the land. Quite an adequate description already, I would have thought.
