Fighting fund

Linda Addison reports on the Weekly Worker fighting fund

Election campaigns for the bourgeois parties have become little more than advertising extravaganzas as, policy-wise, little actually separates Labour and Tory. So it comes as no surprise that the Tories plan to spend £40 million this year. Nevertheless this is a huge increase on 1992, when the official figure spent by the Tories was £16 million compared to Labour’s £7 million. Given all of that, the Tories are still running a campaign against the BBC for bias. Unfortunately this year, it seems even £40 million can’t buy them votes.

Communist politics of course cut far deeper than the multi-media sound bite slanging match of Labour and Tory. Still it takes money to get the communist message across. Elections are an essential time for communists to make propaganda, given the heightened political environment. We are standing communist candidates both in the Scottish Socialist Alliance and in the Socialist Labour Party, and we need to start raising the money now to make these campaigns as effective as possible. Rush cheques to the CPGB.
