Into reverse?
Robbie Rix reports on the Weekly Worker fighting fund
After an excellent start to the new year, when we shot through the Weekly Worker’s £2,250 fighting fund target for January, things seem to have gone into reverse in the first two weeks of February.
With half the month gone already, our running total stands at just £736 - less than a third of that target. Over the last week we received donations amounting to just £221 - the lowest weekly total I can remember, certainly for the last half-dozen years.
That’s not to say we’re not grateful to those who contributed, of course - thanks in particular to comrade PB for her excellent £70 monthly standing order, and to comrades RL and PM, who both donated £50 via PayPal. Apart from that, though, there were only five other standing orders/bank transfers - thanks to comrades TT (£12), LM, CC and MZ (£10 each) - plus one other (rather unusual) PayPal donation of just £2 from comrade JDS.
But now we really do need to step up the pace. It’s handy that we’re about to enter that time of the month when three or four very substantial standing orders come our way, but on their own they’ll be nowhere near enough to make up the lost ground of the first half of the month.
So please, comrades, help to give us a much needed boost by chipping in as much as you can afford, so that next week I can report (hopefully) that we’re back on track. Can you do that? Send us a cheque, make a bank transfer or click on that PayPal button. Let’s aim to equal in the next seven days what we’ve received in the first two weeks. That would leave us with a chance of reaching that much needed £2,250 target for the second month of 2023.
We rely on your support!
