Success!
Robbie Rix reports on the Weekly Worker fighting fund
Some excellent news to start with, comrades. Thanks to the £510 that came our way in the last six days of the month, the Weekly Worker fighting fund for January totalled £2,494 - in other words, exceeding the £2,250 monthly target by no less than £244.
What a contrast to the last three months of 2022, when a deficit of £686 mounted up. So now we’ve not only met the January target, but eaten into last year’s shortfall by more than a third!
Thanks very much to all the comrades who saw us home - including, in particular, the five comrades who donated £50 or more. Comrades JB (£100), JM (£60) and DB (£50) all made their contributions via PayPal, while Irish comrade AM donated €80 by bank transfer, which translated into £68. Other substantial transfers or standing orders came from BK (£50), GT (£35), MD and JT (£25 each), in addition to £14 from OG, plus a tenner each from JL, JM and VP, and £8 from DD.
Finally we received a cheque for the second successive week (this one for £30) from comrade CG, while comrades LM (£10) and Hassan (£5), handed their cash donations to one of our comrades.
Not bad at all! But now we need to keep things going and make sure January wasn’t just a one-off. As you know, this paper relies entirely on the support of our comrades and readers - not only to keep publishing, but to ensure that the quality of its content remains high and the paper is efficiently produced. In this context, subscribers please note that the delay in mailing out the Weekly Worker last week was not the fault of any of our team - unfortunately our printers had a serious breakdown! Our apologies.
But back to this month’s fund. On February 1 alone we received £155 from 13 comrades, the most generous being TG (£25) and BK (£20), while nine other comrades contributed amounts ranging from £10 to £15, and two others gave £6. As I write, we have one day less than four weeks to make that monthly target - and hopefully exceed the minimum of £2,250 we need for a second successive month!
