2022 deficit

Robbie Rix reports on the Weekly Worker fighting fund

Let me start by wishing our readers all the very best for 2023 - here’s to a politically productive year for Marxism and the revolutionary left!

But unfortunately there’s some bad news to begin with. In December we failed to make our £2,250 fighting fund target for the third successive month. True, we received some excellent donations - including four fantastic three-figure contributions from KB, GB, PM and SK - but we ended up with only £1,948 in the kitty.

We also received some donations via PayPal from JT (£85!), DB and RL (£50 each), TB (£25) and TT (£10), together with bank transfers/standing orders from JC (£70), TR (£40), GT (£35), MD (£25), DG, GR, GS and MW (£20 each), SS (£15), OG (£14), JL and AR (£10), JL (£7) and TT (£6).

All that comes to £1,242 received since the last edition of the Weekly Worker (December 15), to be added to the £706 already in hand in the first couple of weeks of last month, but, as I say, the total we ended up with was quite a bit short of the target. In fact, the deficit from the last three months of 2022 comes to no less than £686.

So now we really need to step up the pace. We need to ensure we not only smash through that £2,250 barrier in January, but start eating into the 2022 deficit too. After all, as I keep pointing out, our costs have been continually rising, so now we need to see our fighting fund contributions doing the same!

We start the first month of the new year with just £337. I’m talking about just a few days, of course, but that figure includes the usual raft of standing orders we receive to get each month going. Thanks to comrades AC (£60), FK (£37), CG (£30), BK, II and SJ (£20), MD (£18), BG (£17), RG and MT (£15), TM (£12), MM (£11), GB, AN, CP, YM and DI (£10), plus DC and JS (£6 each).

Please do everything you can to help us start 2023 the way we mean to continue!
