The fight for a Socialist Labour Party

Unofficial discussions have continued throughout the Christmas period on the form and potential of Scargill’s proposal for a Socialist Labour Party. At present the CPGB is in discussion with other organisations to produce a ‘Democracy Platform’ that can be the basis for the forging of new working class, socialist organisation.

Discussions this month are crucial to save the project from the bureaucratic monstrosity suggested in Scargill’s constitution, published in Weekly Worker 122. This document is incredibly still being treated as a secret document. It is now the subject of debate in bourgeois media circles, with the Independent (January 3) quoting the “leaked constitution” and Radio Four’s news at 1pm on the same day speculating on where the leak came from.

Another private and ‘secret’ meeting is planned in London on January 13 before a more public affair on February 10.

This whispering campaign must be ended. Revolutionaries must work vigorously between now and these two meetings to ensure that the widest possible forces are involved in the debate at meetings and in our papers. The best way to do this is to spread the Socialist Forums, initiated in Scotland, all over Britain.
