Police unpopular

The latest revelation from the Audit Commission. I wonder how much money it took them to discover that one. Efficiency and more foot patrols are put forward as solutions. May we suggest that they stop harassing young, black and working class people. And stop beating up people demonstrating against anything from racism to live animal exports.

Tabloid bigotry

The tabloids have had a field day of outrage over the lottery hand-outs, summoning up all the chauvinism they can muster against money going to refugees. Communists however are equally outraged at how many basic social provisions have had their funding reduced or withdrawn altogether while the rich get richer and the poverty gap widens and deepens. Roll on the day when tabloid editors are refugees from the socialist state.

Smash Job Seekers Allowance

Opposition to the government’s proposed JSA is growing rapidly. Annette Wright from Unions Against JSA will speak on behalf of unemployment benefit workers who are refusing to implement this vicious attack on the unemployed.

London Saoirse update

Mick O’Brien and Patrick Kelly are still on their blanket protest started on July 12 because of the new draconian conditions at Whitemoor prison. Patrick Kelly is recovering from a life-threatening operation.

Over the next month Saoirse, campaigning for the release of Irish political prisoners, will be having several pickets and protests to highlight the treatment of prisoners, especially if they are not transferred back to Ireland after November 1.
