Cosy consensus

The Irish Republican Socialist Party has accused both the Irish and British governments of being premature in their proposed setting up of an international arms commission.

“THE MOVE to establish this commission is based on knowledge that both the loyalist fringe parties and Sinn Fein are in agreement. We on the other hand have had no involvement in secret deals or manoeuvring with the British government.

“There can be no deal or recommendation on arms prior to overall political agreement. The announcement reflects the inability by both governments to take into consideration the views and position of those of us who do not subscribe to their cosy consensus. This form of exclusion could have potentially dangerous consequences for a process that attempts to move without the agreement of all the protagonists.”
