UNOFFICIAL industrial action in February of this year forced Godfrey’s of Dundee to award workers a three percent increase, an extra day’s holiday and further improvements to conditions.
The continuing militancy of the workforce was met head on by the introduction of short-time working on June 25. This affected workers drastically. As a result of the shift systems and annual hours, the workforce suffered a wage cut of 50% with no dole or any other form of assistance.
On July 28 the company announced plans to sack 67 workers, with those remaining suffering a wage cut of 16% - or £30 per week.
Currently a campaign is being set in motion to defend these jobs and oppose the wage cuts.
