Solidarity brings victory

BRITISH RAIL Telecoms staff have won major concessions by voting for industrial action and securing solidarity action from other railworkers, trade unionists and socialists.

The Rail Maritime and Transport union has had five areas of success:

  1. A bonus payment will be made each year starting in December 1995
  2. Negotiations are under way to reduce the working week to 35 hours
  3. Regrading claims will be processed this year.
  4. A simplified pay structure to get rid of Rewards and Resources (a restructuring package) anomalies is to be instituted.
  5. Contingency payments will be looked at with a view to increasing them.

Our biggest battle is still ahead. Privatisation is on the horizon but if we build on our victories, our solidarity and managements' defeats we can pre-vent this catastrophe for our industry.

BRT workers and the LMDC RMT again wish to thank all those who showed solidarity with us and pledge our solidarity to you whenever you need it.
