Labour evicts unemployed

LAMBETH’S Labour council is to go to court on Friday July 14 in an attempt to evict the four-month long occupation of the Jan Rebane Unemployed Centre.

The occupation committee intends to contest eviction proceedings every inch of the way. The four-month occupation to save the centre has won the support of many Lambeth trade unions and community groups.

Rob Elvin, spokesperson for the committee, said: “Lambeth council’s legal action is a disgrace and we will fight them to keep this valuable community resource open. If we don’t get justice in the courts, we are prepared to barricade ourselves into the Jan Rebane Centre. Unemployed people need this centre - they do not need Lambeth council to try and close it down.”
