The first week of the month is always a good one for new standing orders paid to the Weekly Worker since the beginning of last year - £144 extra compared to before January 2008.

That amount is donated by a total of 13 comrades - the biggest donors being SM (£30), SD, DS and MJ (£20 each). But all those smaller gifts add up too! Talking of which, I got four separate cheques for £5 this week - thanks to all of you.

But there were some larger cheques too - the most generous from comrade TY, who sent in £50. “I’ve been meaning to do this since Christmas,” she writes, “but your back page last week jogged me out of my inertia.” I’m not sure which week TY means, but, whichever it is, the donation is much appreciated, comrade.

Thanks too to PL (£25), TB (£20) and FG (£15) - TB’s donation was made via PayPal - the only one of 20,261 internet readers who made a contribution to the fighting fund last week.

We start February with £274 - not bad, but don’t forget, this is a short month, so please get your gifts in early. We need £1,000 each and every month.
