Fighting Fund

Disappeared

For some unaccountable reason the number of online Weekly Worker readers fell dramatically last week. We have been regularly topping the 20,000 mark since before Christmas, but now suddenly the figure has fallen to 13,619. Explanations, anyone?

I wish I could say that those 7,000 people have all switched to buying a hard copy. Afraid not - we haven’t had to increase our print run yet. Never mind - we did get quite a healthy number of donations - including one from among the 13,000: KN, who paid us a fantastic £50 via PayPal. Thanks, comrade.

Meanwhile through the post we received £40 from VT, £20 from RB and a tenner each from KP and FC. And IT added £5 to his subscription. I can also report the usual flurry of standing order gifts that come our way at the beginning of each month - £106 in all.

Talking of standing orders, Peter Manson reports that comrade SM, whom he telephoned about another matter, suddenly said: “Shouldn’t you be asking me to increase my payment?”

He had read about our new drive to raise an extra £500 a month and was eagerly anticipating a call. Now he has increased his SO by £10 a month to £40. Thanks for your understanding, comrade, but let me say to all those other sympathisers out there - you don’t have to wait to be asked!

Our drive has already brought in an extra £60 before we have really got started. Meanwhile our fighting fund for March stands at £241. Please feel free to donate to your paper in whatever way you consider appropriate - and that includes all our online readers (even the ‘disappeared’ 7,000).
