Election diary

The Communist Party is fully supporting the LSA's campaign for the elections to the Greater London Assembly. Candidates for the all-London slate so far decided are Paul Foot (SWP), Mark Steel (SWP), Janine Booth (AWL), Kate Ford (WP) and Greg Tucker (SO).

We also call on all supporters actively to involve themselves in Ken Livingstone's campaign for the mayorality.

West London

A meeting has been arranged for Thursday February 10 at the Hammersmith Irish Centre. Further details to be announced

North East London

This constituency, which unites the boroughs of Hackney, Islington and Waltham Forest, has selected Jim Stanley (Justice for Harry Stanley) as its candidate. A rally has been organised for Wednesday February 9 at the People's Palace, Queen Mary and Westfield College.

Tuesday February 15, at 7.30pm. The Walthamstow branch of the North East London SA will hold a public meeting at Rosswyld Hall, Church Hill, Walthamstow. Speakers: Mark Steel (SWP), Janine Booth (AWL), Len Hockney (SP) and Jim Stanley (Justice for Harry Stanley Campaign). Chair: Tina Becker (CPGB).

The organising committee meets every first and third Tuesday at 6.30pm in the Tut'n Shive, 135 Upper Street, N1 (close to Highbury and Islington tube station).

At a recent hustings for mayoral candidates in Walthamstow, 50 people signed up expressing interest in supporting a socialist campaign for the GLA.

Greenwich & Lewisham

The candidate selected is councillor Ian Page of the Socialist Party in England and Wales. However, in view of the SP's decision to withdraw from the all-London PR slate, a recall meeting has been organised for Monday January 31, at 7.30pm. Venue: Albany Empire, Douglas Way, Deptford, SE8.

Enfield & Haringey

Weyman Bennett (SWP) is the candidate. Members of several SWP branches, the CPGB and Alliance for Workers' Liberty took part in the selection meeting.

A public meeting has been called for Tuesday February 15 at 8pm. Venue: Wood Green Labour and Trade Union Club, Stuart Crescent, N22 (five minutes from Wood Green tube). It will be addressed by Weyman Bennett, local trade unionists and an LSA speaker.

A committee meeting will be held at the Labour Club on Tuesday February 1 at 6.30pm.

Brent & Harrow

The launch will take place on Thursday February 3 at 8pm. Venue: Ceceili on the Green Pub, Walm Lane, opposite Willesden Green tube.

Camden & Barnet

Candy Udwin, Unison shop steward and SWP member, is the agreed candidate. First open organising meeting: Tuesday February 15.

Lambeth & Southwark

The candidate will be selected on Monday January 31 at the Hope and Anchor pub, 123 Acre Lane. Nearest tube: Brixton.

Two public meetings have been arranged: Thursday February 10, 8pm, Bread and Roses (upstairs), 68 Clapham Manor St, SW4. Nearest tube: Clapham Common. Speakers: Weyman Bennett, Enfield and Haringey candidate; Greg Tucker; Janine Booth and Theresa Bennett (Lambeth Unison shop steward).

Livingstone campaign

Ken Livingstone will be addressing a series of question-and-answer meetings (for Labour Party members only) across London, starting next week.
