Fighting Fund

SO stalwarts

We end the first fighting fund of 2009 on a high note, I am pleased to say. We reached our £1,000 target - just - having raised £1,067, thanks to donations totalling £250 received over the last week.

Let me start with the new or increased standing order payments into the Weekly Worker bank account: £20 from GD, £10 from DO and a tremendous £50 from JT. Thanks to all of them - as well as to the stalwarts who have been making regular SO donations for more than a year, but have not increased them since January 2008. They don’t usually get a mention in this column, but I am grateful to them nonetheless.

I also received cheques from JR (£40), SH (£30), GJ (£25), RD and SO (£10 each). A very encouraging £50 was collected in donations to the paper on the January 24 demonstration against BBC bias - most from just one comrade. Finally KN added a fiver to his PayPal subscription. He was the only one of our 18,972 online readers who did make a contribution to the fighting fund this week. At least the only one who donated electronically.

I am pleased to have made the full £1,000, but we need to up our income substantially. We will give details of how we intend to do this in next week’s paper.
