Evrensel will never be silent

OUR correspondent, Metin Göktepe, has been murdered by police. Metin is the 25th journalist killed in the last five years. The authorities, including the public prosecutor, are trying to portray Metin’s murder in custody as an ‘unknown perpetrator’ case. Yet Metin’s murderers are not unknown. Neither are they just ordinary policemen. He had been singled out among other journalists and killed.

This is intimidation against Evrensel, which sides with workers, labourers, revolutionaries and democrats and insists on writing the truth.

The Istanbul security chief declared, even before he took up his post, that he “came to Istanbul to behead”. He also revealed his mentality during the soldiers’ attack on Umraniye prison by explaining that there should be more terror on prisoners.

Because Evrensel does not have the support of just five or 10 or 100 reporters, but tens of thousands of labourers who are oppressed by the state,it will continue to write the truth and will never be silent.
