Fighting fund

Untapped

“The Weekly Worker has been vital to the Hands Off the People of Iran campaign since its inception,” writes Hopi steering committee member Tami Peterson, “and is a necessary weekly read not only for its insightful analytical articles, but its honest and unashamed accounts of the state of the British left.”

As Labour Representation Committee treasurer, comrade Peterson knows a fair bit about the state of the British left. She concludes: “I would encourage any regular or occasional reader to take out a standing order to support the ongoing work of this important publication.” And Tami has matched her kind words with a £10 SO of her own.

Another two comrades who obviously share her opinion are SD and DB. Comrade DB is so modest, he didn’t even inform us he’d be increasing his standing order by £10 a month - but all was revealed by the latest Weekly Worker bank statement. Thank you, comrade, and thanks also to SD, who raised his SO by a tenner too.

These changes take our total for extra monthly donations up to £419. We are now in the home straight in the race to raise an extra £500 in SOs by July. Actually I am confident we will go well over that figure - there is just so much untapped support out there. But we need all our comrades to approach their contacts in a much more systematic way.

The argument is simple: to pay for our new printing arrangements we must raise our income by that £500 - or, to put it another way, we have doubled our monthly fighting fund target to £1,000. But we are not there yet. In fact our March fund fell disappointingly short at £759. This despite a fine £40 gift from KG and two £20 cheques from FD and CT. And thanks once again to our French comrades from Le Communiste 76 for their £10 online donation.

Talking of our website, the number of visitors went up above our recent average last week - 29,945 people read the Weekly Worker online. See what I mean about that untapped support?
