The world of good

With two weeks to go, it's time to get that cash coming in says Robbie Rix

I have to say that, despite the £211 that came in this week, November’s fighting fund is quite some way behind where we ought to be if we’re to reach our £1,750 target this month.

I should remind readers that this target represents the difference between the money we receive from sales and what we need to spend to produce the Weekly Worker - office costs, printing, postage, etc (our team - those who write, edit, lay out and distribute the paper - are unpaid volunteers). The £1 cover price doesn’t represent anything like what we need to bring in each week (and, of course, we don’t charge those who read us online - there were 3,156 of those this week).

It goes without saying that we’re not doing it for the money, but because we want to put out as widely as possible our central message - the left needs to get its act together. We need to unite on a principled basis within a single Marxist party.

But we’re only able to put out that message because our readers support us, week in, week out - so many of them make generous donations. This week we received standing orders from TR (£40) and KB (£20), two cheques (£25 from LT and £30 from BV), plus PayPal contributions from JF (£20), GF (£10) and DB (£7). Then there was the money donated to the paper at last Sunday’s London Communist Forum - PB’s £25 deserves a special mention there.

But our running total stands at just £698 - which means we still need to raise over £1,000 with exactly two weeks to go. A few really large donations would do us the world of good right now.
